Ticking noise?

Ticking noise? So before i wrecked my car reverse was out but anytime id hit a bump id always get a ticking/tapping noise and it would go away after awhile i took it to a shop and they looked at it told me my transmission was bad obviously but they also told me my rear end was bad. Do you guys think this noise really is my rear end or they were just trying to get more money? Also if i change the gears and differential you think this noise would go away if it is my rear end?
