Default 9 Inch LT1 brakes issue

]So bit the bullet and bought a 9 inch off a member here. Was set up for an LT1 car and I know I have to swap backing plates. Issue I am having is is there a special tool to unbolt the LT1 backing plates??? I can't fit a socket in there and the nut is recessed so I can't use a box wrench. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can you put a socket on it without the ratchet attached first, then put the ratchet on the socket after the socket is recessed onto the nut down the hole? That doesn't leave room to back the nut out, but you can hold the nut on that side and use another ratchet to pull the bolt out from the inner side.

I ended up making a specialty socket out of an old extra. Had to take some off of both sides using the bench grinder.

I was thinking if just grinding a socket down. Seems the easiest

Just don't go too far on the hex side. If you need an extra 1/16 you can get it from the drive side.

Well honestly don't even need much to get everything in. I figure if I break the nut loose I can probably spin it off by just the socket
