Default strange 1/2 inch wheel studs

hey guys just a heads up, I bought a strange s60 from Carl in 2010 I'm new to aftermarket rearends so forgive my noob mistake. studs started to show a lil rust and my lugnuts became stuck. I snapped one off and another stud just spins but i have ordered some arp 100-7704 and mcgard lugs 63004 hope this will fix my issue just tossing info out there so people can learn from a mistake.

I think you may just have low quality studs, not coated so they rusted... The only antisieze you might need with arp studs is alittle around the knurl when you press them into the axle. the threaded portion should not need anything, especially wd40 to prevent corrosion. the ONLY thing I would put on the threads is maybe a bit of medium locktite, never anything that will encourage the lug nuts to back out.

you should never have to coat your lugs in anything. and i dont know why people buy such bad *** rear ends and only get ehhhh studs... to not upgrade to ARP wheel studs is a silly mistake. the ARP bolts will never rust, and takes near an act of god to break them. when you order a rear end from Bob@ Brute speed, all you have to do is call him up and ask for the ARP studs, he will charge you the difference and swap them out before shipping.

Yeah well when I purchased the rearend that's what they came in and wasn't a lot of info about the studs they used but they are screw in studs not press. Believe me I was surprised at how bad they rusted only saw rain once other then that car is in garage. But lesson learned. I never had a problem with arp studs rusting so should be good to go once installed.

Go arp or go home. This is what Strange studs look like after 3 passes on a 700hp car with slicks...

I agree arp is the wtg I now have to purchase new studs, lugs, redrill both axles, new bearings and wedding rings from having there crap studs wish I new this from the start yay me. Strange didn't even wanna help on anything just that they sell a bunch of rearends and not enough with my issue. On top of paying to have all this done.

i got a quick question, i know the new ARP studs need to be pressed in, and not pulled in with an airgun. i was wondering if i could use a bench vise and sockets to do this, or if it is not recommended.

if your going to "pull" the studs onto the axle with a vice and sockets, your essentially doing the same thing as using an impact/airgun. 99/100 times you wont hurt anything, but do you really want to chance that 1%? When I did my 9" install, I went to harbor freight and BOUGHT a 20 ton press for $175... pretty much the same amount I was going to pay to have the studs pressed in, the bearings and bearing retainers pressed on the axles and all the races and bearings pressed to assemble the 3rd member, good investment if you ask me

ok i just took my axle shafts, and new hubs to a tire shop, and they pressed out the old ones and pressed in the new ARP ones for $20 (well $21.83 with tax) total.

as a bonus, the last stud busted the press at the tire shop!!!

While the axles are out. Why not have your current 1/2 screw in holes drilled to 5/8 in case needed upgrade in the future of studs? Just something I wish I would have done when I had it apart the last time
