Default Which Diff to get for my 12bolt?

(GM 12 bolt 3 series carrier 33 spline)
My truetrac is clunking like crazy. If i get under the car with it in neutral and the ebrake set I can still rotate the driveshaft around 60-75 degrees. So it's time to replace it since they're not rebuild-able. I know I don't want another trutrac, but not planning on spending 900-1000 on a wavetrac. What are my other options. No spools, this car will see a lot of RC/ autox not just drag.

Thanks
Jim

We have to know what spline your axles are to know what is available for you. Detroit locker would be the next step up in strength I would think, however some do not care for their locking/un-locking feeling. Pretty sure Auburn and others make cone type posis for 12 bolts that are around the Tru-Trac's price (~450-ish).

For Auburn you'd want the Pro Series. Auburns are non rebuildable but they have the D-Rex program where they will replace it with a new one no questions asked for 4 years. Eaton makes a clutch type posi that is rebuildable and I think there may be different rate springs you can put in it to vary its limited slip characteristics. I've read of people that also install a extra clutch plate in each side of a Eaton to make it more locked up.

It's too bad your Truetrac didn't hold up. They're supposed to be a great diff for Auto X.

Yah I was really hoping there was an alternative to the truetrac that was torsion style that would not have so much play in it. I've only put about 10k miles on the true trac and am pretty dissapointed.

Have you taken off the diff back cover and checked everything out? Is your Truetrac making crunching sounds or behaving strangely other than the excessive amount of play? I don't see how the Truetrac could develop play without making all sorts of bad noises. They are a close tolerance precision unit, when the helical gears get damaged the broken pieces cause all kinds of havoc.

I've had it apart several times, if you google it, it's a very common issue with the truetrac. It whines on decel and when going around corners, it clunks at low speed like crazy. I could deal with the whine, but the clunking is driving me nuts.

I would look at an Eaton HD, I broke mine (spiders) once, upgraded the spider and never broke it again. It went 1.47 60ft with a 6spd.

I will send you an email with the guy I bought the spiders from. You can likley buy the complete unit with the spiders from him. I have a Wavetrack now in my 9".

PM sent.

I've heard great things about the Eaton HD units and they are rebuildable to my knowledge.

Eaton HD as mentioned above is your best bet. They are strong, durable and rebuildable units.
