Default posi unit change question

thinking of changing just the posi am I thinking right that the pinion would not have to be reset being that pinion depth was set off center of the carrier bearings the gears are relatively new would like to reuse them just reshim the carrier to the right backlash am I correct thinking this way any help would be appreciated

Yes,correct.
You didn't state why you want to change the carrier/posi.
a pattern worn into the gearset is difficult to re-establish. Could end up noisier. Measure your current lash to use as starting point.

When I've swapped just posi units it really didn't require any re-shimming. I've always checked them but ended up running as is.
