Default 9"..Use Gasket or No?

I'm putting my 9" back together this week after the spool gets setup in the centesection..before the damn rearend always leaked alot.

When I first put it together I used black rtv and the provided gasket to put the pumpkin in the housing and I noticed that it didn't take real long for that gasket to get eaten away and become useless and it started leaking alot.

I had someone say i should put it back together minus the gasket and it wouldn't leak..anyone try this or something else in particular that has kept their 9" from leaking?

thanks in advance..

I've done it both ways and never had leak problems there. I used RTV even when the gasket was used

I have a rubberized gasket that I use over and over again with no silicone, and no leaks. I can't remember who makes it though, sorry.

I like to use permatex "the right stuff", it's not cheap but it works.
Clean the mating surfaces with brake clean, get totally dry & goop it up let it tack-up for 5 min. & slap it together.

i usually use permatex for everything, so the high temp one would be best? there are several permatex variety if i'm recalling corretcly.

that's what i ddi the first time, lack it tack up a bit using the black stuff with the gasket. def gonna try no gasket this time.

sweet, thanks for the input, the more the better..gotta see what works for others as i don't want any damn leaks this time, always making a mess outts the garage and driveway and stuff.

guess i'll go with that permatex ultra black, pretty sure that's what i used last time with the gasket..i bet it was the gasket the f'd everything up
