I ran 4.56s' for 4 years in an auto,so it's not the same as your M6 situation. You'll probably be shifting more often than you'd want to. Traction was hard to come by,I was running 315/35-17 Nitto drag radials and LCA re-los. !st & 2nd were wicked and I still had a top speed of 140. The OEM 3.23s' gave me 24.5mpg on trips from Ohio to Florida and the 4.56s' gave me 21.5mpg on 4 trips to Florida (yes,Ohio to Florida with 4.56s' in an auto),the computor handled the mpg well.
I picked up a set of used 4.56 Richmonds for $25 at a swap meet and put them in a rearend I had ready to use. I'm back to the OEM 3.23s' now, but that 4.56 rear is still intact & complete ready to be put back in whenever I want.
You'll have to modify the carrier pin to get it in past the ring gear or remove portions of the ring gear teeth that are not within the contact pattern.

The pinion on a 4.56 gear is laughable. If you beat on it I say don't do it and save your money.
