Default Can I get away with 3.42 gears on nitrous?

I'm sure it's been asked before but I was not able to locate the thread.

I'm currently running a trex cam on a stock bottom end LS1 with 243 heads, fast intake and 100 wet shot.

The car has a stock 10 bolt with 4.10 gears.

My question is, can I get away with 3.42 gears on my set up?
I broke my rear and can't afford an upgrade at the time so my buddy is giving me a stock rear for free.

Thanks all

No, not if you are driving the car to its full potential.
Your going to have to be pretty gentle with it until you can get a better rear.

Gonna have to drive it like a grandma.

It is not a daily, I just want to be able to enjoy the car while I save for a good rear.

Thanks for the feedback!

You can get by with the 3.42s.

The Nitrous torque should help out just in case.

It's just that they recomend 4.10 or higher with this cam.

I didn't notice the cam specs. It probably will run better with the 4.10's but for now the 3.42's will work. Are you trying to race or daily drive?

It's my weekend warrior, usually take it out on the weekend's for a few runs.

I have run in the 10s with 3.42s and plenty have run faster. It will probably help the stock 10 bolt last longer.

You may be surprised at how well that rear end does with the stock gears. It will run fine at the track but you won't cross the line at peak rpm like with the old rear end. You will also experience a little more cam surge while driving on the street...but IMO I think it would work fine while you are saving for a better rear.

I got a chance to try it and it wasnt that bad on the juice. I took out a 2013 Supercharged 5.0 over the weekend.

Off the juice it takes some time to pick up since the cam is so big but nothing too bad. I can live with it till I have the funds for the upgrade.

As long as I'm able to drive my car I'm happy, even if it ran in the 20's, LOL!
