Thinking of shortening new rear.
Ok Ive already got the money together to order my new rear end. I Have already decided to get a MWC 9". The wheels i have on there now are Weld Pro stars. when i get the new Rear im thinking of changing to the Weld RT-S S71 wheels or the billet specialties street lite wheels. Im trying to go for a dish look on the wheels so im figuring i need to shorten the rear to reduce the back space i put on the new wheels. i was thinking of shorten the rear about 2" on each side. If i shorten it this much i want to make sure i dont have to cut the car at all. i dont want to do a mini tub or anything like that. Is this possible if so does anyone have any pictures.
by the way the wheels i have are 15" by 10" in the rear

well i did do the bfh mod on the front inner fender of the rear. im running the 15x10 wheels with a 7.5" bs and my wheels are 275/50/15 so i was thinking of going with a 15x10 but with a 5.5" bs and keep the same tires when i shorten it 2". My thought process is if i take 2" out of the rear i can take 2" off the bs which will give me the desired look.

Thanks for your wise selection of the MWC rearend! You will have great peace of mind knowing you have the best parts for your money!
We can easily go -3.5" each side with the Strange housing ends, and up to 5 off with LCA bracket mods. Figuring backspace on a 10" wheel uses 7.5 at stock width, subtract your narrowing number from that.
Our most popular narrow is -3.0 each side, which usually uses a 10" wheel with a 4.5 backspace.
There is no extra cost for narrowing the rearend, the wheels are more common, the rearend weighs less, and a shorter axle is stronger. There are a lot of benefits compared to the stock dimensions. The one thing you all need to keep in mind when selecting wheels you must consider the brakes at the same time. The late model f-body brakes are quite large(and heavy) and won't work with most 15" wheels. We do offer great brake packages from Strange and Wilwood.

My problem is price. I've already had to scrap the idea of an aluminum case so I can save money. And the spool is included. The locker is only $300 additional but the s-trac is an additional $800. I by no means drive this thing daily. It usually sits in my driveway for a month or two on end. I'm pretty sure though once I get the new rear I will drive more often. But more often to the 1/8th mile track (which is only 20 mins away) or the 1/4 mile (which is an hour away). Every once in a blue moon do I get asked to show up for a show.
