Sometimes the axle bering is pretty tight to the housing. Have you tried tapping with a rubber mallet? Shouldn't be a c clip axle...

I have had to use a slide hammer to remove 9-inch axels.

They are tight sometimes. But when the axle tubes are bent their even tougher to get out. I broke a slide hammer getting mine out.
Short story. Eyeball your axle tubes when you get them out.

Even though you have a brand new rear, you may need to use a slide hammer. Bob

You can use a peice of 3/8" allthread and nut between the housing end and the axle flange to drive it out or like others have said, use a slide hammer. Good luck!

I just removed mine. I used a rubber mallet on the back of the backing plate. They came out.
