uh ohh not another 8.8 build thread question :)
Building an 8.8 for my 95 lt1.. Im going to get an 8.8 from a ranger with 28spline axles and 4.10 trutrac i can pick one up from my local U-pull yard for 60 bucks
Im going to use my 10 bolt tubes and slide them into the 8.8 tubes and weld them. I should be able to use my stock 10 bolt axles for now correct?? "stock length rear"
Ok what if later down the road i buy 31 spline axles for my rearend i just built. would i buy axles for a 10 bolt or ford 8.8? "ill get a 31 spline diff from exploder"
Thats my main question what would i do for bearings in the axle tube when i swap axles?? ford bearings in 10 bolt tubes??
Do they make 31 spline bearings for 10 bolt tubes??

The 28-spline 10-bolt axle will fit the 28-spline 8.8 carrier. I believe you will have to modify the c-clips since the two diffs use different thickness clips. The 31-spline carrier from an Exploder will fit into your Ranger housing down the road. You'll need custom axles from Moser, Strange, etc. to make it work. What are you doing for a TA mount on the Ranger housing?

is the 31 spline axles big bearing? and the stock 10 bolt axles small bearings?? will explorer axle bearings fit in my 10 bolt tubes when i order axles?? thanks sir

hitlsy beat me to it. lol I used 31 spline axles with the 7.5 bearings. when I ordered them from moser I told the I needed the same axle as a Camaro just 31 splined. I have had no issues so far. as for the mount I was going to make mine and I messaged hiltsy to see how much his was and after that I bought his. it's a very good design that several people on here have used so it's proven to work and the price is worth every penny.

The Ford 8.8 axle bearing diameter (1.622" ID) is bigger than the GM 10-bolt axle bearing (1.400" ID). Generally speaking Ford stuff doesn't fit GM stuff & vice-versa. The exception is the 28-spline axle, where both GM & Ford happen to use an SAE involute spline. When you build a hybrid rear with a Ford 31-spline carrier and GM 10-bolt ends your custom axle supplier will need to machine the 31-spline axle with a 1.400" bearing seat to fit the 10-bolt.

Hey guys guess what I bought today!! I couldn't find a ranger with 4.10s and a troclok or whatever. So I found a explorer with and 8.8 with 4.10s and a posi. It has 31 spline axles and the big tubes so I'm gonna make a spacer between my tubes. ...I'm gonna call moser and get axles made stock camaro length for an 8.8 rear with 1.4 bearing ends.. I'll figure out how to post some junk yard pics! I paid 125 for the rearend. Door code D2 and confirmed it with the rear tag. I found that a lot of the vehicals didn't match the door tag to rear tag.

M6. I was out playing and destroyed the 10 bolt on Saturday and what a couple coincidence the trans got stuck in 4th and I smacked the shifter hard and it popped out.. Up for a stage 2 rebuild for the trans aswell... How well do you think this rear will hold up? Car weights 3250 Aprox. 355rwhp 390torqu. Hoosier slicks. Dumping It at 5500?? Think I should upgrade the carrier to carbon clutch packs??

I think the 8.8 will hold up fine, depending on your TA mount design of course. I can help with that if needed. The clutch pack upgrade is cheap and easy so why not do it? I scored a Ford Racing kit and it was < $70 as I recall. I added an extra shim to tighten up the spider gears.

I'm probably going to make a style similar to yours. Im on a budget of course ill prolly just draw one up in CAD/CAM and make my own. Ive googled 8.8 carbon clutches and there about $130. Is there anyway to put a stiffer spring in them? so its posi more often? if that make sense.. like less of a chance it will be one tire.. or like you said an extra shim? what oil? and thanks @hiltsy855 for all your help

When im taking my measurements from the 10bolt to the 8.8 should i located from the center pin? or center of pinion? are they inline?? another thing if i center the pinion with the trans so my driveshaft is straight will the axle lengths be correct still??

Sorry I missed your post the other day. Take all of your measurements from the cross pin and you'll be fine. The 10-bolt uses same length axles so that's why you go that route. The pinion is offset on the 8.8 and 10-bolt but the offset distances are almost the same so your driveshaft will run straight enough.
