Default Difference between rear ends??

Ok so I am wondering if there is a difference between a 99 V6 firebird rear end and a 00 trans am. The reason why I am asking is that I have some 3.73 gears that were for the V6 but I now have a trans am and I want to put the gears on that.

Could be a BIG difference making them not useable for your application !!!
Most V6 had 3.08s' which were on a 2 series carrier,some V6 had a option of 3.42s' which were on a 3 series carrier.
Since you didn't state what your TA has,A4 with 2.73s'(GU2) 2 series or 3.23s'(GU5) 3 series OR M6 3.42s'(GU6) 3 series, the series of the 3.73 gearset has to be the same as the carrier currently in the TA.

The V6 has the 3.42 gears that are a 3 series and I am not sure what the TA is but it is an auto.

This is correct. There are some variations between the platforms.

"How do you find this out??"

your option code sticker would indicate GU2(2.73) or GU5(3.23).
if sticker is gone, other clues would be,GENERALLY 2,73s' got a steel driveshaft,3.23s' got an aluminum driveshaft. GENERALLY with 2.73s' the gear selector couldn't be put to the 1st gear position because it was blocked by a plastic tab. Final resort:driveshaft rotations to one wheel rotation,2.73=2 3/4 turns,3.23=3 1/4 turns.
