Default driveshaft length measuring question

Ok, I had a driveshaft that was supposedly long enough to run my th350, but its about 2" too short, yet its 1" longer than a stock one. do I measure from the back of the tailshaft to the pinion nut? whats the proper way to measure to get the correct length? Do i need to do it with the car on the ground or can I do it with it up in the air and the rearend dropped??

In my experience the driveshaft manufacturer will tell you how they want it measured. Usually, though, if you're getting a new shaft and slip yoke its from the back of the tailshaft housing to the front of the pinion yoke as shown here: http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/html/b.html . Measuring should be done with the weight of the car on the suspension.
