My last explorer 8.8 used two long side axles. The wheel flange bolt pattern was different from GM and no shop wanted to redrill it, so I used spacer/adapters to make up the 1.5" length I needed and convert from ford 5 on 4.5 to GM 5 on 4.75
The disk brake flange was different on the ford housing and I didnt see a simple adapter being feasible, so I used the explorer disks. Ive had a multitude of rear disks and size/type never really played a part in brake feel. Only the front brake type/size
