Torsen Question
99 Z28 the the rearend is making noise and slipping it has a torsen setup in it. I held the brake and it stalled up over 4000 rpm and wouldnt spin the tires.. We have a new tranny and converter in the car, has anyone ever had this problem before. When I let off the brake you could here alot of noise from the rearend. Took it apart cant see a whole lot wrong other than a bearing but had alot of shaving's and we just changed the fluid last season. I am thinking the gears in the torsen are wore bad enough that its not interlocking the way it should and slipping?.. any input appreciated.

That's not how Torsens work... you should still be able to spin one or both tires.
When you lift the rear, do you get differential action (spin one tire, observe the other tire spin opposite direction)...?
If not, then you may have a broken axle or broken Torsen.

It will still drive normal, But if you put it on the converter and launched it,it wouldn't even spin the tires and had a bunch of noise coming from the rear.. The axles are fine but its hard to see inside the torsen setup to get a good look at the gears. We have another we are going to try to see what it does..

No it drove but if you put any power to it is when the problem starts.
Yes the rear made noise and sometimes only 1 tire would spin but with a torsen setup it shouldn't do this it should spin both once one starts spinning.

A correctly functioning normal Torsen requires load against the slipping wheel, in order for it to be able to transfer drive to the other side.
So there are conditions where one wheel can slip quite easily.
But if your on flat dry ground, generally speaking no it should not be spinning one wheel. If it is, along with the noise something is clearly wrong.

We have it out now and but haven't taking the torsen apart yet. There has to be something broke or wore out in there to cause this. I was just curious to see if anyone else had the same problem. We thought it was a auburn or that style originally and thought the clutches were wore out. but that wasn't the case.

Well go the torsen setup welded so obviously it is like a spool now. Low and behold the problem is fixed.. So it was something in the torsen not for sure what but, it should last the rest of the year till we can get a MWC 9" under the car.
And RockinWs6 I still dont get it.

Do you have any pics of what you found inside, were the internal gears stripped, bolts loose, cracks, breakages, pile of metal, other stuff...?
Did you check if one axle is broken (spool can mask a broken axle), can you spin both tires...?

There was alot of metal shavings my son said the gears inside looked really worn so I assume worn enough to slip, Axles are good We didn't take the torsen all the way apart due to we just need it to last the rest of the year. So just took the easy way out..
