Exclamation Putting together a 12 Bolt and have some Questions

I have been gathering parts to put together a 12 bolt and I thought I had everything I needed.

I have a Strange 12 Bolt housing and I bought a set of Moser axles off a member here. The axles had LS1 backing plates and I needed to install my LT1 backing plates. So I bought some new Moser bearings (9508B) and swapped the backing plates and bearings.

The axles and bearing slide in the housing but the bearing does not sit flush with the housing end. A little more research shows I needed to buy the Strange taper roller bearings for my the housing ends that I have. OK, well I look those up on Strange website (A1013) but notice they have an inside diameter of 1.562 but my axles have an outside diameter of 1.531.

So since that bearing will not work for what I am trying to do, is there another option? A taper roller bearing for the Strange H1143 3.150" housing end and the Moser 1.531" axle?

I need to get this thing together in a hurry so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Id call strange and tell them what you got. Alternatively, buying strange axles and selling the mosers is viable as well.

I was going to call them but it got late a little quick. I kinda thought I would have to buy new axles but hoping for that magic bearing number that would get thing together in a hurry.

Thanks for the help.

Strange has a A1020 bearing that fits your dimensions but it's a ball bearing, no tapered roller other than the A1013 (Timken Set 20).

I called Strange and they said the ball bearing I have will work. He had me check to see if the splines were bottoming out in the spool and they are not. Apparently there the bearing is supposed to stick out from the housing end about 1/8" and that is about what mine does. I did not ask if there was supposed to be an 1/8" gap between the backing plate and the housing end or if there is a spacer that should be there to take up the gap?

Yes there is a spacer. Check my thread for pictures.

That makes a little more sense now. Now to get those spacers in a hurry.

I know you are running LS1 brakes and I assume I would still need that spacer for LT1 brakes.

Just got off the phone with Strange again and they said LT1 brakes do not use a spacer at all. Tighten the nuts down to 30-40 ftlbs and the 1/8" gap is nothing to worry about.

The spacer is for LS1 brakes for the internal parking brake assembly clearance.
