Default Strange 12 bolt vs. 9" ford

Hello, I have a 2000 Camaro ss 6 speed with a t76 turbonetics, and I am wanting to upgrade the rear end. The car makes about 500rwhp, and I'm afraid of launching and driving it hard with the stock 10 bolt, especially since it's a manual. It seems like the 12 bolt strange is the easiest way to go, and go for about $2700-$2800. I do plan on taking it to the strip on the weekends. Would this read end be ok for my application, or would it be worth getting a 9" instead? Thanks, Logan.

Strange 12 bolt will hold that power all day everyday.

You might be able to get away with the 12bolt in your car but why risk it being that you are a 6spd a better option would be the s60. Please give us a call if you have any questions.

I have both in low horsepower f bodies. One six speed and one auto. Don't play games. Get the S60 or even better, the 9". A 12 bolt will hold up but it will most likely howl like there is no tomorrow.

I have run both. Get a case of ear plugs if you go with the 12 bolt.

a general way of going that has been posted on this site is

A4 - 12 bolt, s60, or 9"
M6 - s60, or 9"

I have a 9" in my car from mwc and am very happy with it, also have a buddy in town with another ws6 that has the s60. no complaints from either of us. s60 is cheaper but weighs a little more. give MWC a call, they'll set you up with what you want and also help you with any questions you may have.

Thank you Firebirdmuscle for the kind words.

The 12-bolt is a nice rear end but we just do not recommend them for the F-bodys as we just had to many complaints about gear noise after awhile. The Strange S-60 however has proven to be bullet proof and a great inexpensive option.

If you want one of the best options on the market our fabricated nine inch is the way to go. We have a ton of available options and it is the only rear end on the market that bolts back in just how the 10-bolt came out.

9" or S60 for a 6spd. I'm running the Moser housing and axles and built my own Strange center section with a wavetrac , 4.30 and a solid pinion shim. It's very quiet.

Every car should have a 9" in my opinion lol, easy to get the carrier out and swap gears and it can handle whatever you can throw at it. Ever wonder why the pros run them???

I like it cuz you can set one up on a bench. Far from a quick change in an fbody when the torque arm is in the way & gotta remove it.

Very true. I've done both and I don't necessarily consider the 9 inch quicker or easier just a little more convenient because you can do it on the table without pulling the whole rear end out of the car.

It is much quicker if you set up two center sections. One for 1/8 mile and one for 1/4 mile.
