Default Best gears for a turbo 5.3 with t56??

Wondering what the best read end gear options for a 1991 Silverado with a 5.3 t56 swap with a .585 cam and a 76mm turbo would be?? Haven't got the turbo yet but should either be a 70-76 mm turbo. Trying to make around 600-650 hp. Going to be running your standard 28x10.5 tire. Mainly going to be a street truck with a few trips to the drag strip every year.

Have heard everyone say all the way from 3.23 up to 4 plus so not real sure what to run.

Just has stock 10 bolt which is why i want to build a 9 inch with New gears. Have a Dana 60 available as well but am having a hard time finding any gears under 3.50 for the 60. Any advice on either one of those builds for my setup?

Considering the weight most trucks are a ratio around 3.50 would probably suit You well. You can get a 3.54 gearset for the Dana 60, paired with a spool You will have an economical and robust solution for Your rear end that can handle way north of 1000 HP.

If You are leaning toward the 9" there are many other ratios available so if You added more HP in the future it would just be a gear change where the Dana 60 would not offer anything lower numerically than the 3.54.

Think of Your future plans prior to deciding on a particular housing.

If You would like to discuss this further please call (316) 299-8427.

Good Luck,
Carl

I wouldn't think a spoil would be a great option for a mainly street truck would it?

That all depends on the person You ask, but most would prefer a posi. The differentials that can handle 600 to 650 HP start at $750.00 for the Dana and the top of the line diff for a 9" is $995.00.

I run a 3.70 gear with turbos, t56 and 28" tire. I was fighting between a 3.50 and 3.70 and I'm glad I went with the shorter of the two. The 3.50 would have been just a tad too high IMO.

Are u running 1/8 or 1/4? What setup are u running and how much power? I'm shooting for mid 600 range but might go more in the future. Wondering if a 370 would be enough if I have more power for a 1/4

Also if I went with the Dana 60 could i use a full floater? I have access to a full floater but heard a lot of guys use semi float. Or does it matter?

A floater is not much help till over 2000 HP. I don't recommend going to that expense for 650 HP.

It comes with brakes and won't have to chop it to fit which is nice. Only need to move perches and change out diff and fears so I'm thinking if the full floater will work it might be cheaper. Guy is only asking $150 for it I'm just a little worried about the weight. Any idea of how heavy they are compared to a 9 inch??

1/4 mile and I've got enough gear to turn almost 160mph at the top of 4th. Running twin 6165 on a 370ci. Will make over 1k turned up. I left the 4.33s from the nitrous motor in it initially and it was waaaay too steep.
