Did you use loctite 638 under the ring gear per the Ford instructions? I just put the ring gear on my 8.8 last night..

I must say that there in no other worse feeling than getting sent the wrong parts, I got two right side calipers, so I had to run all over town trying to find a drive caliper. I found one for mockup and am going to a email to get another one. Rant over!

Lol it's super dirty and there's no Panhard bar in it so it's shifted to the right and looks like there will be a photo shoot when I set everything finished this weekend.

Nice looking axle but I've gotta ask, why spend all that money for a 8.8"? I'm not trying to be an ***, I'm just curious why you went this route, and if I'm missing something. I'm going to put a 8.8" in my TA but I bought a complete, 4.10, limit slip, Explorer axle for $180. I'll spend $100 on 9" housing ends and about $400 on axles and do the fab work myself.

The benefit of a 8.8" seems to be being able to build a cheap axle out of good, used, factory parts. Adding up what you spent on just the axle parts and labor you spent $2400, that's dang close to the cost of a 9". Just curious, thanks.

Everyone is different and putting used axle parts with the quality in the air, just isnt me. I would much rather spend the money now for all new parts and know the condition of the parts. Also the 9" that you see for around there are basic by the time you add a posi, torque arm, brakes, ect **** adds up really quick!!! With the 9" i have been around they tend to have leaking problems and can whine, not saying that its everyone but just didn't want that possibility

did I miss something to get to the 2400? or are you including the brakes too? most 9" setup at the 2500 don't come with brakes and come with a spool. a LSD is usually another 500-1000 depending on what you get. so for a car that has a lot of street use or a daily, a spool wouldn't be fun. or safe.

the factory track loc's on these are pretty strong. you can get a new one with carbon disks (same setup in the gt500s) for about $225 shipped.

drag car has a moser 9" with a wavetrac. I have a cut up 8.8 and 10 bolt axle tubes with 3:73s going in my daily.

$100 for 8.8 with 3:73s
$100 for 10 bolt axle tubes
$225 for new ford racing true loc lsd with carbon disks
$700 for TNT to weld them.
$300-400 for 31 spline axles.

$1500 or so plus shipping and other misc stuff for a rear that will be fine for a DD/500rwhp.

12 bolts are still 2k with a spool. so around 2500 ish with a lsd. im still saving about a grand.

10 bolt $125
8.8 $150
box $20
Shipping $67.71
Rearend Fab $760
Freight Shipping $128.75
Dutchman Axles $328
Moser diff cover $148.97
Gears, diff, install kit $526.84
Strange yoke1350 $89.97
Strange u bolts $13.97
Ford racing ring gear bolts $8.97
Moser/arp main stud kit $45
C Clips $5

=$2418.18. Pricing a complete 9" with LSD is around $2800, not sure if that's shipped or not. You can buy a housing and axle package for $1200, and all the parts to assemble the center section for around $1500. So about $2700 to assemble it yourself, which is what he did here with his 8.8".

I was just curious what his reasoning was.

I pulled a 4.10, limited slip axle at a pick-n-pull for $180. If it were 28 spline I'd just reuse my 10 bolt axles, but since it's 31 I'll buy new axles and might as well switch to 9" housing ends while I'm at it. I'll have about $700 in it but that's with factory gears and diff and doing the welding myself. If I were going to replace everything and pay for fab work, I'd rather just buy a 9", but if the OP got what he wants and is happy with it, then that's all that matters.

Don't forget about the torque arm that your going to have to buy with the 9"
