Default What gears for these cams?

I recenty purchased an 02 ws6 M6 with only 66k on it AMAZING condition completely stock. I've already started playing with it have a MGW short throw TSP long tubes catless Y pipe and borla cat back. I' wanting to do a 233/239 tsp cam or a 232/234 tsp torquer cam. I want it to be streetable with a good lope but don't want to be shifting constantly with 4.10s Ive heard that everyone suggests 3.90s? any tips or suggestions help. Thanks in the mean time!

I run 4.10's on my setup and love them. Wouldn't change them at all

I don't wanna be shifting all the time around town so I am leaning more towards the 3.90s

Hi I have 3.90's in my 02 ss 6 speed, with a 233/236 cam, I would go 4.10's if I was gonna do it again, its still hardly at 2000 rpm in sixth gear at around 60 mph.

with 4.30 gears im at 1,750 rpm at 60 in 6th. I would go with 4.10 as a minimum with a 6 speed.

are you talking putting gears in the 10 bolt behind a cammed m6 ?? or do you have an upgraded rear? if 10 bolt your playing with fire to begin with but more so the lower you go on gears I wouldn't go past 390 behind an m6 car and your still one launch away from grenading it , automatics don't shock the rear nearly as much and you can get away with more. Tiny pinion and thin ring on 411's in a 7.5" rear

Don't know where you get the idea you're shifting it way more around town. The lower you go though the weaker they get with a 10 bolt. 4.30s are about perfect with an m6- but due to the above information I'd throw in the 4.10s and go have fun

I can see how 4.10's would be weaker then a 3.73 or 3.90, but if its going to grenade with the 4.10's, the 3.90's wouldnt be far behind. If your running street tires the 7.5" will probably live for a while, my 7.5" never blew and I was cutting 1.7 60' times with 180k miles on it.

6 speed. Some obviously get luckier then others with the 7.5" I ran street tires 99% of the time and 26x10.50 et streets at the track.

its a 6 speed and its a stock rear end. I have heard that they are weak and can break under stock power if taking a hard launch. I'll be running street tires as well. It will get upgraded sooner or later probably when it does grenade haha ill just have fun in the man time. thank for all the info guys.

I only asked 6 sp or a4 because 10 bolts tolerate a lot more behind autos so your experience definitely applies... carry on lol

That's the thing, you just have to treat it as a handicap

No clutch dumps with sticky tires

what do you guys think of welding the axle tubes and putting larging axles in and a girdle? something else I have heard of doing to help prevent the inevitable.

I'm not saying it's the wisest option, but I have a trutrack with the stock 10 bolt and it's doing fine knock on wood lol. 6-speed with 4.10 gears, drag radials and damn near 700 rwtq on the nitrous

the 8.8 Ford is getting very popular for a budget upgrade , nobody is making a fab 8.8 housing yet but search hiltsy on here he makes the mount for the torque arm and there are a few guys in posts in this section that can weld it on as well as the rest of the housing work.

Explorer rear ends are cheap because the diff is off center so most other platforms wont use it but on a 4th gen you cut the tubes off , weld on the f body tubes with all mounting brackets and use aftermarket axles retaining the f body brake setup , the real key to this fitting under a tight budget is that you can get explorer rears with 373 or 411 posi center sections for $200-300 and if you should break gears or diff they are cheap and plentiful , but its plenty tough for the average bolt on , cam , heads cam type car.

Theres been mention of the welding of the mount on the cast center section causing some tolerance issues , I imagine the devil is in the details , I am not ready to pull the trigger yet but this is the direction I have been studying for my own M6 bolt on car.
