Default 7.5 rear end question

Quick question guys how much can a 94 F body 7.5 rear end take? I haven't heard to much about the abuse it can take. I plan on going with 4.10, and I have a T-56 also. Street and strip car.

This thread will give you an excellent idea of average (and extreme) potential life expectancy for the 7.5" exposed to the rigors of drag racing:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/gears-axl...ock-7-5-a.html

In summary, life expectancy is good for the A4 cars and bad for the M6s.

Stock hp cars have broken these rears with manual transmissions, banging gears out on the street. You just never know when your turn is up. Bob

Thanks that helps some. Can't beat on it. It should hold up fine for a while no racing.

With a 6 speed every time you bang a gear your taking a chance on blowing the rear. They are weak.

Like mentioned they are more forgiving behind a automatic car.

Although many will come on here and say they grenaded theirs on old, hard, 500 tread wear all seasons, on the cold street in winter, granny shifting it IS somewhat dependent on just how sticky a rear tire you are running with that T56.

your 411's aren't going to help matters either teeny tiny pinion and thin ring gear to fit that ratio into a 7.5" space

Well surprisingly I found a guy selling 3 8.8 rears for 100 dollars they are all drum. What kits do they sell, and or what is the fab I have to do to make one work in a f body. I still want my disc brakes.

7.5s handle a lot more when they have fresh gears and bearings. Ive put a ton behind m6 cars and they live long lives. With stock gears, used/damaged bearings, and stock tolerances they dont hold up great however. Notice I said damaged, ive never repeat never pulled a stock m6 rear apart that did not have driver side carrier bearing damage, even ones that were still being driven. They are always torn up, surely contributing to its eventual demise.

Is there a upgrade bolt in axle from another vehicle? I to would like to keep my discs in the rear. Like a bolt in 12 bolt or something along those lines that fit in the 4th gen Camaro?

There are no bolt in 12 bolts from other cars, you have to either buy new from the aftermarket minimum around 2100, or go with a fabricated 8.8+10 bolt hybrid which if you have the fabrication skills can be had for less than a 1000, or rebuild your 10 bolt and hope for the best. If your lucky, you can find a rear in the parts classified.

Damn. This is an expensive hobby. I don't have the tools for fabbing a rear. I'm guessing your talking about welding in brackets and such right?

Default 10 Bolt Life

I think the more you add on under the hood, the more pressing is the issue of what is holding all that power on the other end. My 2002 SS has a Dyno reading at the rear wheels of 390 & change.(6 speed). I don't launch it or speed shift but I am now in the process of installing a new rear axle & pinion set up because I don't trust it to take on the extra torque indefinitely. I also run
295/35 ZR18's on the rear. Most of my fun time is from a rolling start because I am not looking for a towed ride home. Peace of mind is worth it. You know,"if you're going to dance you have to, sooner or later, pay the band".

X2. I'm not looking to do burnouts. Launch at 4-6000 rpm's. Or speed shifting. I like to cruise and when I want to move out it will be from a rolling start. I will always have my radial tires (not drag radials). Some day if I get back into drag racing I will have all the necessary parts to do so. But my wallet restricts me from doing that right now. I will be putting a 4.10 in my 7.5 and new bearings to go with it.

Ya. I have seen 9" and 8.8's in the classifieds before but they are expensive. And they more than likely need to be shipped. And where you are at shipping is probly real expensive.

I'm doing an 8.8 hybrid right now, there's no hope in a 7.5. Biggest joke ever, they were under the Chevette for goodness sake!

The stock rear is really hit or miss IMO. In my case I'm surprised mine is holding together lol. I have a M6 with 4.10 gears, around 600 rwhp and 700 rwtq, and drag radials. Of course a lot of it has to do with how you drive

Unless you have an auto. The thread I linked above shows just how durable, on average, these rears are for the A4 cars.
