98 v6 rear end swap to posi
Hey everybody, first post, so forgive me if im doing this wrong. I have a 98 v6 camaro with the 3.8, and 4l60 e. No traction control, just second gear start. The rear end is stock, and i want to swap it to a posi rear. From what ive read the 98-02 v8s have the posi's, but with varying gear ratio's. My question is if any of these rears from 98-02 v8s will simply bolt up for an easy swap on my sixer, regardless of gear ratio "although a 3:42 would be ideal". What should i look for at the junkyard? Thanks!!!!

Yours should be 3.08 ratio. 98s' have disc brake rears so you just have to unbolt the calipers without breaking the hydraulic brake lines and let them hang aside.
98-02 Zs' would have 2.73,3.23,or 3.42.
It would be an easy swap.
Since you don't have traction control, you would need/require a rear with the sensor on top of the rear.
M6 3.42s' are abusive to rearends so a 3.23 out of an auto would probably be in better condition.
here's a recent thread on something similar, similar in the respect of replacing a V6 rear with a V8 rear.

A 98 would have an Auburn posi,99-02 would have Torsen posi.
