Using 411 from auto in m6 rear?
So I have read in a couple places that the carrier that came in auto cars and m6 cars were different and you can't use the same gear in each. Why is that? What is different between the two? I have a set of gears I can get from a buddy for CHEAP but they came out of an auto car and mine is a m6. Let me know what you guys think.

You can if the carrier series is the same. M6 3.42 would have come on a 3 series carrier. A4 could have either 2.73 2 series or 3.23 3 series. A 2.73 2 series converted to 4.10s' would have required a 'thick' gearset. A 3.23 3 series converted to 4.10s' would have been a 'regular' set and would have the same application as using it on a 3.42 carrier. You have to find out which carrier series the 4.10s' are for.

As said above, the carrier is the same if the auto car was a 3.23 car originally. Of course, this assumes we're speaking about the 7.5" 10-bolt (where 2.73 and numerically lower is a 2-series.) The ratio breaking point for carrier series isn't the same for every rear though, for example an 8.5" 10-bolt is not the same as the 7.5" (for 8.5", 2.73 is already a 3-series.)
