Default 3 channel carrier into a 4 channel rear

So I was about to order some gears for my 01 z28 A4 but I came across of a 98 WS6 rear and I couldn't pass it up, So my question is should I remove the reluctor ring from the carrier or just leave it ? My 01 doesn't have and I know the one on the 98 is pressed on, I'm just swapping carrier and pinion gear I'm not going swap out the whole thing . Thanks for any info

Default

reluctor ring can be left on !
It would be easier to swap the entire rear if all you want is the carrier and gearset(not pinion gear only).
Use your axles(coming out anyway) and backing plates from the 4 channel rear into that 3 channel rear to make it a 4 channel. You then don't have to set pinion depth and gearset lash.
