Default Pics of my broken drive shaft

I had posted about my DS breaking at the track.. well I finally got around to pulling it out tonight. I thought it had broken right in the middle, but it ended up being right behind the front welds.. a really nice clean break. Can't wait until my chromoly one from AP Engineering gets here so I can kill my stock torque arm

It broke on the first launch with ET streets, 12 bolt and 4.10 gears.. it just barely moved when I dumped the clutch at about 4500rpm.

That's weird.I ran a factory driveshaft with 560 rwhp in a 3840 lb sled and never hurt it.7000rpm dumps on ET Drags netted mid 1.40 60's.I must of had a strong one.

I split my alum DS exactly where yours broke too this past sunday. lol Driveshaft #3. I'm finally just went and got a custom Steel 3 and 1/2 Inch one made. These Alum shafts just don't like 6700RPM launches with 3750#'s behind em.

Gomer,

Why don't you replace the Trq arm while your at it? I did the Trq Arm, but now I need the 12bolt and Drive shaft. BTW - AP engineering are great to work with.

6-speeds are hell on the drivetrain. It's a blast to row tho!

Wow that was one clean break! Thats exactly what I was worried about though, even on nittos I figured I was on borrowed time with the stock shaft. Every so often you get a few folks who seem to get a strong one, but seems like a large majority start snapping them like twigs with any kind of sticky tire. So I too can't wait for my APE chro-mo shaft to get here in a week or 2. They were very pleasant to deal with over the phone.

Yes, I'm doing subframes and torque arm while the car is down.

That's what mine looked like when it let go, a corkscrew.

I ended up buying a chromoly 3.0 inch diameter shaft from AP engineering (site sponsor). It should be VERY strong. It was $330 I belive... I ordered it last monday and I"m hoping it will be here today or tomorrow.

After breaking 3, three inch shafts (alum and steel) I went with a steel think walled 3.5" driveshaft (clears and fits perfectly). I will never go back to a 3" shaft especially after breaking 3 of them already! 6700 RPM Launch + Slicks + 3750# TA = Broken 3" shafts. The steel one did last a good 100+ launches though and finally let go.

I got my 3 inch chromoly shaft from AP engineering Friday!! It is VERY nice and has no vibration all the way up to 130mph.. verified at my secret "legal" test facility I'm going to try it out on ET streets and sidestepping the clutch at 6k Tuesday night.. so far I'm impressed with it for the price.

Yup, mine came in Friday too, though I was too busy to put it in this weekend. Probably will have to wait til the upcoming holiday weekend. Looks like a very nice piece, and heck, they were even good enough to write my name on it
