10 bolt buildup ????...
Anyone putting any money into the 10 bolts? I see everyone buying the 9" and 12 bolt setups, what makes them so much better and why wouldnt the 10 bolt be as strong with some good axles and spool/posi?? Ive seent his in the mustang setups Ive run as well, people change to a 9" instead of bullet proofing the 8.8, I had moser internals and the axletubes welded up with a gridle and I couldnt throw enough power at it to hurt it..Just a thought, please let me know what ya think or have done..

Just us dumb sunzabitches.
Preload type Girdle cover, 3.42s, T-2R chunk, hard
pinion spacer, all new bearings & seals, welded tubes.
That's about as good as it gets, since I have an A4,
mild STR/stall speed converter and only run (good)
street tires I figure it's got a good chance of holding
up.
You wanna be hardcore with an M6, might as well just
forget about trying to make the 10-bolt tough enough,
is the general view.

In an A4, the stock rear can hold up pretty good, even with mods. The ford 8.8" is much stronger than our 7.625" rear end. You see most M6 guys going to a built 12 bolt or 9" rears because they can take much more torque than a built F-body 10 bolt can. A4's will not shock the rear like an M6 or an A3 with a trans brake so you may be fine with a stock 10 bolt depending on how you use it...

What if all you do is slip the clutch off the launch with your m6? I dont want to buy a 12 bolt. Id rather build my 10 bolt to handle about 400 rwhp, and spray it from a roll. Id never dump the clutch and only run street tires, as this car might see the track 1 time a year.

A buddie of mine just grenaded his at the track on bfg drag radials. His car made 420 rwhp and his rear was beefed up w/ hardened axels. This is the second time it has been broke. So some people are lucky some are not. If you are going to beef up your stock rear and arent planning on going to the track much you might be fine. MIGHT good luck

with a lid, 3200 stall converter and drag radials on an A4 i blew the posi and bent the axles in less than a year, so dont think just because you dont have a 6-speed youre fine. if you plan on racing and getting that nice pretty launch, you better start saving for a 12-bolt... and a transmission.
