what rear gear with stock th400 first gear???
just like it says, i have a th400 with the normal first gear in it. i've ran 7.1xs in the 1/8 and 11.2x in the 1/4 with a 3.42 gear in the rear of the car right now, will i lose any from going to the th400 from the stock 4l60e? thanks for any info.

It depends on the stall you are going to run in the TH400. You will either need more stall or more gear. TH400's are power hungry compared to a TH350 or even a 4l60, and they have a much taller first gear than the 4L60e, you would need the stall or gear to compensate for that.

Well you deffinetly have enough stall. I would say maybe a 3.73 or 4.10 would be good, but you might want to try the 3.42 you have for a while. It would probably be faster with more gear, but without the overdrive it wouldn't be a very good highway cruiser.
Also, taller tires will want more gear obviously. The th400 is kinda close ratioed and will scream with more gear.
