Default Price of a 9"

Why can you buy a 9" for a g-body for $1000, but it costs twice as much for a 4th gen?

Are we just getting bent over or what?

Where?

Housing, axles = $700

Center section, complete = $1000+

My center section would cost $1100 to replicate. I have a Strange nodular center, 31 spline Tractech soft locker, and Strange 3.50 gears.

I only have $1500 in my 9inch..and if i didn't get all the lightweight components i could've put one together for around $1000-$1300

At one time I had $1200 in mine but the used posi crapped out so I got a new locker.

A super cheap setup would be something like this:

Moser housing and axles, $700-800
New gear, $175
New spool, $175
Used truck center section, $100
---------------------------------
$1150 not including miscellaneous parts

I've gotten used gears for as cheap at $50.

I have some used gears for sale, one set of 3.70's and one set of 4.10's, pm if interested.

If you're looking to piece one together, I have a 9" third member with a Detroit Locker, 31 spline, 3.50 gears and a 1330 yoke. $450. Came out of my Moser 9" rear.

The 3rd member wouldn't be the problem for me.

The housing would be.

Where can I buy a cheap 9" housing that bolts into my camaro?

Moser probably has the cheapest 9" boltin solution for our cars.

You also need the torque arm support too.

A 3rd member that can take abuse isn't cheap. I just paid $1070 for a strong posi unit, lockers are more.

Where did you get the 9" for $1500? I just blew out my 10 bolt and am looking to do a 9". I have a friend that has a new 9" cast iron rear end complete with 3rd member and axles that he said I can have for around $2200. It has to be converted to fit a f-body. If I can get a light weight one for $1500, I am all for that.
Thanks,
Andy

You guys thinking you can build a 9" for cheap, You do realize that Moser, Strange,Mark Williams etc etc 9" units are NOT actual Ford parts right?

A Moser 9" third member for instance in MUCH stronger than any OEM Ford unit.
Moser, Strange etc etc 9" parts are only Based on Fords design. They have been much improved and beefed up over Ford factory units for racing use.
You get what you pay for.
