Default Is my rear end going to go soon?

I race on a very regular basis. I have a 99 A4 (mods in sig) with stock rear and ET Streets (although I had the axles and bearings and seals replaced 8k miles ago (and put strange 3.73s in).

When I am cruising at about 60 mph and let off the gas: When the converter unlocks I hear a quick louder whiney noise, followed by my normal whine. The rear is not clunking and doesnt seem to change around a turn. It is mainly on decel when I hear it, accel = nothing. It is when it downshifts.

I am not going to race the car anymore untill I get a 9 inch or 12 bolt (whatever people tell me is best to get for the $$) but Will I be ok on the street for a few more months probably?

What do you think is the probme? I assume it is the rear end but do you thinik its serious?

Thanks,

Brent

Has the sound progressed or has it always been the same? Louder when turning?

Start saving your money. Its hard to say exactly how long it will last, but it will go for sure. Take it easy and hope it makes it.

it completely stopped making the noise now... Do you think that it could have just been hot or something after the track that night?

I wouldnt not reserve the money for it just because it quit making noise especially since you got M/Ts on the back at the track.

if it is properly set up it should not make any noise. I have had several 3rd members built and heard the differance between a good setup and a bad one. The 12 bolts are the same, the only noise you will heard it s the diff you dicide to go with. I would look around alot before buying a rear, there are very very good places to get one, also with a warranty, I would recomend a place but there not a sponcer(bad taste) so if you want the name PM me. Check out the truck stuff it is built for serious tq so that could be another deriction to go.
