Stock 10 bolt with Moser axles
What is the general concensus on this idea. I have a broken axle and can not afford a Strange 12 bolt right now nor can I afford the downtime so it looks like I will have to fix it for now. If I can find a used stock axle to replace my broken one for now that is what I will do; but if I am forced to buy new, I am considering upgrading to a set of moser replacement axles. The rest of the rear will be stock (3.42's, stock carrier, etc.), would this give me any piece of mind, or does it just mean the gear or differential is next. I would just like to break a 2.0 60 ft and run mid 12's. I have seen other 6 speeds do it, but mine broke with out even hitting it hard.

To buy 2 axles from Moser you are looking at $160-170 each. I'd say for that kind of money I'd get another 10 bolt from someone selling one for $250 you can always resell it. Have you tried looking for an axle at a parts yard? The rear end on our cars is I believe the same off an S 10 truck.
I am not sure about the Moser axles and the compatability with a stock 10 bolt.

The Moser HD c-clip axles for the 7&5/8 10 bolt F-Body '98-'02 cars RETAIL for $225 a pair. They are at least 25-30% stronger than the stock GM axles. I don't know what you'd pay for a stock GM axle--but it might even be more expensive than the Moser--especially if you have to pay the over the counter retail price. IMO, the Moser's are well worth the money. WJ

Good question, BOWTIE. Neither of my SS's had traction control. Maybe the TC axles are different. Call Moser. I've bought 2 pr of the 28 spline '98-'02 F-body c-clip HD axles. Both sets were $225 each.

Let me know if you find a set before I do. I thought I had a stock replacement axle lined up so that I could take my time deciding what to do, but it turned out to be a non TCS/ASR axle so it did not have the flange.step area for the reluctor ring. So now I am pressed for time again. This is my daily driver.

I have a pair of axles with the reluctors installed. They are out of 99 Z-28 with ABS/ASR. One of the axles is damaged from a faulty bearing, but the other is fine. PM me if you are interested.

I did this exact thing. I bent an axle and put in Moser axles. I think I paid $425 for two axles, the machine work for the rings to fit, new stronger studs and a TA cover shipped to my door. The axles were 225 pair, 40 machine work pair, 140 for the cover and 20 for the studs. The rings can be pried off carefully with a pry bar (this is what I did) then tapped back on with a mallet. I regret nothing. The car feels more solid now under accel and hanling. I am putting in a gear, welding the tubes and putting on LCA brackets and she will be ready to roll. I have pulled 1.90s with just axles, cover and 3.42s. I am expecting 1.70s after the rest of the work trouble free.

BADSZ28: I agree 100%. Should be able to get 1.80's sixtys w/stock axles--if you're not sidestepping the clutch any higher than 4,000 with a M6. It's called "excessive shock load"...... WJ

Well, here is the latest... Moser's were $225.00 a pair plus $55.00 for the relutor ring adapters, and another $15.00 for stock diameter studs, for a grand total of $295.00 + shipping. Only problemis, they do not stock any and it would take 2 days for them to make a set. I ended up finding a set of axles I have never heard of, Yukon axles. They claim to be 5140 forged steel as strong as the Mosers, Superior, or Strange and have a 5 year warranty. Anyway, they are $380.00 a set, but come equipped with new reluctor rings already installed, and they had them on the shelf. Next day air was going to be $140.00 so I opted for 2 day air at $25.00. Hopefully they will be here by Thursday. Anybody ever heard of these axles before?

No, But I've heard of Yukon gear sets. Not axles, though. Yukon Jack whiskey. I've heard of it. There's got to be a parent company for Yukon gears and axles.....Good luck w/them. Can't believe you couldn't find a pair of 4 channel Mosers... WJ

I bent one axle then went with the Moser axles. They are pretty cheap at $295 for a pair with studs and 4-channel ABS provosions. You will need to have the ABS rings(the gear looking things) removed from the stock axles and pressed onto the new ones. A machine shop can do this for you. They are also a little bit lighter than stock, not to mention much stronger. PM me if you want a link to the place. I dont think they are a sponsor.
