as soon as i pulled out of the parking lot at the track last night i noticed a vibration at low speed and occasionally, usually when i had the wheel turned pretty far i heard a popping sound, also sometimes popped when i came to a stop. Well i put the car up on the lift today and was just checking to see if it was something obvious and i found this http://www.mustangmods.com/data/2060/000_0394.jpg broken of the face on the rear u-joint. Could this be the cause of my problems?

I the piece out and i haven't heard it since but it might be just a coincidence. Should i replace the u-joint or will it be ok without this piece?
