It is stronger than a 7.5, but not a huge difference. Not as strong as a 8.5 thats for sure. The only aftermarket gear available is a 3.70, plus you can get a bearing kit, but no cases.

9bolt site click here
He's running a 427 Big Block Camaro With 500 FT Lbs And a TH400 With This Rear.....
Quote From Site
"Common factory ratios were 2.77, 3.27 & 3.45, uncommon factory ratios are 3.08. After market ratios are 3.70. Ratios that I offer are 3.23, 3.45, 3.73, 3.9 & 4.10 (actually 5.13 but bring your visa card, and 3.9 is special order)"

Pretty interesting info, thanks for the link. I wonder how much of that stuff he has in stock. Those rears are pretty scarce so parts arent really in demand. That article is way off on the strength thing though. The Dana 44 is a 8.5" ring gear, and the 9 bolt isnt even close in strength.

Just trying to bump an ancient thread
I just went to 9bolt.com and ordered a set of 4.11 gears, bearing and seal kit, and 2 new posi cones. $550 with Express shipping from Australia. I also bought a 9 bolt girdle cover and upgraded stud kit.
It was cheaper to try this than to buy a new rear. $700 vs $2000.
The way I drive this 9 bolt may hold up for quite awhile I will keep this thread updated.

if a 10 bolt can handle 350 that can handle 390, if a 10 bolt can handle 300 9 bolt can handle 350. that would be my guess, hope it made sense..
7.5 ring gears have broken at stock power (10 bolt)
8.875 ring gears have broken at 450rwhp (12 bolt)
these have 7.75 ring gears so take you guess
(these numbers are on the LOW end of the spectrum)
