It'll come bare. I used Eastwood Chassis Black on mine. I've been very happy with it and its held up great. Of course, mine's not a DD, so take it with a grain of salt with regard to durability.

I just had a Moser /Strange 9" installed, but I cleaned and degreased the housing inside and out before priming. Then two coats of red Rustoleum like PSJ's.

Mine was butt naked. Check pics in sig for paint job. Unfortunately I got stuck in a near blizzard on the way out of Speed Inc. after the install. It got nasty dirty.
