Down the road, I'm going to get a 9 inch rear (probably the street rear from Billingsley), and I want to be able to leave the stock 10 bolt completely able to bolt in if I have problems. So I don't want to have to remove the brake backing plates and tcs/abs reluctor rings off the stock rear, AND I don't want to have to pay for new ones via Billingsley if stock used ones will work.

So my questions are:
1. Will the stock backing plates and reluctor rings work?
2. How much is a decent price for these? I know where I can get what I think is a decent deal. I just want to know what is a good deal. Remember, to get them from Billingsley, it would be $249 for Backing Plates and $199 for Reluctor Rings (this is installed price).
3. How much does a used 10 bolt that still has the backing plates and reluctor rings usually go for?

The stock backing plates will work, but (according to Billingsley) the stock relucter rings will not. In addition, that $199.00 extra is not just for the rings, but include the additional cost of the TCS/ASR style axle. I regular axle will not include the flange that the ring is pressed onto.

Complete 10 bolts are sometimes hard to find, as most of the ones for sale have been removed to replace with heavy duty rears of some sort, therefore they are missing the backing plates and reluctor rings. You need to find one off of a wrecked car, they will go for between $300 - $400.

I am in the same boat. I was told by a friend to get the 9" without ABS/TCS and have Billingsley install the backing plates. Is there any concern if I have a 4 channel rear and run a 3 channel rear, other than I will loose the ABS and TCS?

I am planning on getting the locker; I hear that screws up the ABS and TCS anyway.

My rational is to save 250 dollars by getting the 3 channel, loose ABS and TCS, spend the 250 getting Billingsley to install the backing plates and keep the stock 10 bolt to swap back or as a spare.

I just had installed a 9" Moser housing with reluctors and a Strange center section with Detroit soft locker. Jay Billingsley supplied the center section which was drop shipped from Strange. If Jay put the rear ends together the only way they could be shipped would be by truck, could not go UPS, too heavy. The locker does not mess up the ABS or traction control, I thought it did, but it is the screw in studs that do. They interfere with the field created by the reluctor rings. The sensors have to be shimmed away from the studs.

I shimmed the ABS sensor out about 1/4" and everything works perfectly. The screw in studs were creating an electrical field of their own and playing havoc with the reluctor rings field.

I bought a set of backing plates for $40 at a junkyard off a newer F-body. I'd say anything less than $60 for the backing plates.
