Default Spools: Steel vs. aluminum vs. lightweight

The Moser catalog I have says its aluminum spools for a 9-inch are just as strong as its steel spools. It's half the weight, but I'm a little skeptical.

Also, will these lightened spools for Circle track cars I see on eBay work on a heavy duty drag application?

i don't know about Moser, but Strange once told me their light weight spool was only about 3/4 of a lb. lighter than their standard. however, that may have been steel vs. lightened steel. the only problem you would likely see is if you tried street driving the aluminum one. it will not take heat nearly as well as steel, and you may end up destroying it. i'm sure someone else can chime in on this, but the aluminum is likely just for drag racing and nothing more. it's just as strong as the steel one because being aluminum it's softer and can take the initial shock as you launch. hope that helps.

later,
Dave
