Default ? about Blowing a 10 Bolt...

I am curious... I always hear about people blowing apart their 10 bolts at the races. I am wondering what exactly on the rear end breaks when this happens. If anyone has any pics that would be great. Thanks a lot!

Sometimes the axles break, sometimes the limited-slip carrier breaks, and sometimes the ring gear shaves off it's teeth like a crazy person eating corn-on-the-cob. The M6 cars with a good hooking set of rear tires and a high rpm launch, with a side-step of the clutch will do it with ease. It is a sickening feeling when you're sitting in the driver's seat and it happens....Many F body owners who have experienced it, awaken late at night, in a cold sweat, shaking uncontrollably... WJ

I thought I was going to be cheap and put a circle track mini spool in my older camaro. I broke the pin once, and then I got a harder one that grenaded and tore a bunch of stuff up. But that was on a 9", I dont tell most people what happened, just "all that chevy power"

I sheared the gears off the Torsen. 26k miles. Just a lid, catback and drag radials. Good stuff. Since I'm so poor, I dumped money into fixing it. Richmond 4.10's, Eaton Posi, cap studs, and TA cover.

I've seen plenty of M6 rears go boom. When will my A4 put the 10 bolt out of it's misery? Last year a was cutting 1.7s on ET Streets, 3.23s, 3200 stall. This year I will have more cam, and 3.42s...

I sheared 6 teeth off of my richmond 4:10 ring gear. I got one run on the Et street radials- 11.73 with a 1.60 short. I even thought I was launching it easy! I had the moser axles as well as a pro auburn posi unit. I hear this common for this ratio though. It was worth it to run the above time

Looking at the condition of the cover and the carrier, I'd say that's a very high-mileage car...Am I correct? Carrier looks like gear oil was super-heated in the housing, or never changed.... Just my opinion from others I've seen. WJ

the cover looks like *** because the car spent its first 3 years in Illinois salt roads, the setup had 60K on it with ONLY street tires, and less than 15 drag passes from an idle. It looks dark because its dirty. Stupid 10 bolt!!!!!

Had Strange 4.10s in my 10 bolt, with a T/A girdle and heavier gear oil (Redline 80w140)... launching at no more than 3k on Nittos, bolt on only car (337 rwhp) it lasted about a dozen passes or so before shearing 8 teeth off the ring gear.

after 3 years I finally broke my 10 bolt rearend (99.999999999999999999999999999999% of the time on street...only went to track 2 times)....I broke some teeth off the pinion....

this wasn't a "stock" 10 bolt...it had Richmond ProStreet 3.73 gears, a TA cover, and a Auborn Pro Posi.......it was as strong of a 10bolt as you could come up with.......the reason it lived as long as it did (about 50K miles with 400+ rwhp) was because I never had traction (no slicks and road race shocks/springs).....when I went to BFG drag radials is when I think it got hurt.....

it died all at once......I got up and didn't have really any noise as I drove to class in the morning.....that afternoon I couldn't hear the exhaust over the noise of the rearend......BOOOOOOMMMMMM

How do you do it? I have a M6 and launch at 5grand with a 10 bolt, BFgs, and 3:42 gears. I have dead hooked a couple of times and the car always bogs bad if It hooks good and the best I can pull is a 1.86 60 ft.
My buddy **** his out Saturady at the track. His 6th pass on his new MT drag radials. it sherred of 3 spider gears but apperas not to hurt the carrier too bad.

My friend just trashed his rear in his bone stock 96 Yukon, here are some pics of the carnage, I havent really seen anything like this happen before. Does any one else see something wrong with the carrier.
