Default Wheel Bearings or Axle

I have a 2000 Z28 A4 with about 130K on th odometer. The other day I noticed a strange noise coming from the rear, particularly the right side. Took it to a shop and was told it may be either my wheel bearings or my axle. How can I tell what exactly is wrong with the car. Never had any problems with her.

The only mods are Y3000 stall, exhaust & lid. Thanks guys.

take it apart and take a look. Some people say by turning certain directions you changing the load on different parts of the drivetrain, you can tell what is bad. However i had a number of people bet my case bearing were making my noise, ended up being a pinion bearing race. good luck

same here. sounded like a bearing on the axle but mine was a carrier side bearing! need to tear it down.
