Default Bad U-Joint?

I can hear a clunking noise from under my car after I shift, but if I let the clutch out really easy it doesn't do it. I can also hear a rattling noise when I go over bumps. Both of these noises started happening this morning. My boyfriend got under my car and he said it looks like the u-joint is loose.
Is it bad to drive in this condition? How much can I expect to pay for a new u-joint?

Thanks!

It's not necessarilly good as it could fall apart and cause your driveshaft to fall out. I've been driving with mine loose as hell for about 2 months now. A new ujoint is about $10-$15. Problem is I can't press mine out. I bent my vise trying to press it and I got so pissed I figured I'd just drive it until it does fall out saving me the trouble.

He's talking about the torque arm bolts on the rear end housing.

I have to replace the U joints in my pickup soon, it's been clunking for more that 6 months now . Not really looking forward to doing it.

Yeah mine made the same noise, that you described, my T/A bolts were backing out. But it might also be the u-joint

I took it to a mechanic and he said it's my transmission mount. I've got a new tranny mount on the way, hope it gets here soon...I'm sick of granny shifting!!!
Does an hour's labor sound okay for replacing it?
