Default 10 Bolt Sucks?

I KNOW THE GM 10 BOLTS OR BAD FOR BREAKING WHEN YOU START USING STICKY TIRES OR ADDING MORE POWER, BUT WHAT IN THE REAR END USUALLY TEARS UP MOST OFTEN?

The gears, carrier, and the axles.. If it breaks dont bother fixing it, get the 9 inch or the 12 bolt........

Ive Still Got The Stockrearend, I Have Replaced Axle. With The 6 Speed In These Cars The 3rd And 4th Gear Is Pretty Strong, If I Replaced The Gears With 4.10's Would I Lose Some Of The Top End Since I'm Gaining On The Bottom End?

Well Thursday at the track I took out my 6th set of gears 2nd carrier and 2nd stock tranny (3 weeks old). Its not going back together till my 12 bolt arrives and built tranny is done. This throwing money down the drain is done with this 10 bolt. This is my everyday driver, I am on vacation, they got a week to getter done.

don't think you'll be able to get away with an aftermarket carrier either, they break too. broke my eaton posi the week i installed it in 7 places on my first run at the track with it. only launched at 3k too, instead of my normal 6000 rpm.

ps. ls1's are EASY to make power out of. we just dynoed an ls1 corvette last week that made 549 rwhp and 566rwtq on a mustang dyno. add 13% for dynojet numbers. heads cam exhaust.

Even if you beef everything else up, the pinion support will always be a weak link. It allows the pinion to move slightly, which destroys the ring & pinion. There is a guy out there that gusseted the hell out of his 10bolt and he's had a few seasons on it running 10's. The bottom line is the 10 bolt isn't worth building unless you have some sort of 10bolt compulsion, etc.

What About The Stock 6 Speed In The 99's - If It Starts Grinding While Trying To Go In Gear- Is It Worth Rebuilding The Stock Equipment Or Time To Go To Aftermarket Set Ups.

stock displacement, naturally aspirated. It's a road course car raced on Mid-Ohio.

Some auto cars are lucky and the rear will last a little longer than most but will go if it is run at the track alot. You might want to at least change your axels. I snapped a axel with under 1,000 miles on the car. I guess cutting 1.62 60ft.'s with the stock rear didn't help
