Default 10 bolt went boom

Well i went out this weekend to try the new nitrous and on the 4th run of the night i popped something on 2nd gear shift and i saw a hole in the diff cover Guess rear end #3 is coming. I did hit a 12.044 on a 1.697 60' though so that was cool

I feel your pain thats for sure !!! I too blew mine over the weekend at a test n tune Saturday. The thing finally let go at the starting line. Actually thought it was bad wheel hop but I will never mistake that sound again!! Although mine didnt blow through the cover like yours. I had a T/A girdle installed when I changed the gears so I really believe that helped hold it together. Car has 68k on the clock and about 200 runs over the 41/2 years. I cant really complain. I too will have to just get it repaired as I cant spring for a Moser right now Good luck to us both I guess!!

I am not really sure of the extent of the damage inside as it just got towed to Norris this morning and he hasnt had time to get to it yet but he said that most likely it was the ring and pinion. Hopefully the limited slip it still intact. Sure wish I could afford a moser. I will post what he finds inside.

Looks like your ring gear broke and took out the cover while rotating. Your carrier is still intact then? Damn, that's strange. Maybe all you'll need are a new ring and pinion. I have a set of 3.23's for cheap if you need.

It looked like you sheered a bolt off, from what I saw in the pic. Arp don't have any for our rear gear bolts, that sucks.

Hey guy's don't feel too bad the Friday before last I did that to my Moser 12 Bolt. Sheared every tooth off my ring gear and I wasn't playing with the bottle. I guess launching at 6000 rpm's on ET Street's wasn't a good idea even on a 12 bolt but the 4 passes before that was pretty sweet. I have a 10 Bolt cover that look's just like your's at home too. I think after 3 10 Bolt's it's time for a 9". Good Luck.

Ya, three weeks ago i blew the torsin in my 10 bolt. 2nd pass at the track and i didnt make it out of 1st. But atleast i drove it an hour home still (dont know how i made it). So i figured i would by a good diff, diff cover, main studs and have the axle tubes welded. That lasted two f@#%ing weeks on the street. I wish i wouldnt have put the new 315 nittos on my stock rims because it blew the ring and pinion on the 1st to 2nd shift on the street. I cant beleive gm put such a crap rear in these cars.
