Default Has anyone here tried 4:86 gears in an A4???

What did you put your shift points at?

I have a fully built 4L60E and am running them in a Currie 9". I have them with 26" tires right now and it runs and shifts real smooth, but I will be going to a 28" slick for the track. I just want to see if anyone else has tried this and how they set it up. I also will be spraying up to a 150 shot of N20 with 'em. I have done several searches for info but can not find any that use the 4:86 gear. Any helpful info will be appreciated.

Yes, I mainly do 1/8 mile. I have not been to a 1/4 in quite some time. I do use a progressive controller.

It also may be helpful to know that I have a transmission shop that sponsors my car; they get all the parts and do the work for me. After talking with them about how much gear I have left with 4:11's in the 1/4 (at about 4500 in OD) they thought it would be cool to try using all of 4th at the traps. So we are giving it a try. I would just like to see if anyone else has tried. If it does not work... no problem... back to what does.

Hmm. . . probably a very good thing for you about the tranny shop. I would be interested in how long your clutch packs last when shifting into OD @ WOT on the hose. From all I have ever heard from A4 "experts", that will glaze the clutches beyond belief. (Even the "good" aftermarket ones)

Has that happened to you already even with the 4:11's? Nice to find someone willing to push the 4L60E to the limits and beyond, that way we might dispel some myths about the "taboo" OD shift @ WOT with any real HP.
Let us know how that goes, or how it has gone in the past.

Thanks for responding bud! I have heard about the glazing of the clutches but so far mine has held up even with the 4:11's. I had all the bands and clutches looked over before I put the 4:86's in. They told me everything looked fine. I have only sprayed one time on the freeway for the OD shift and it felt great (on the way home from the shop). I am excited to try it on the track. I should have the 28" slicks by Friday. I hope to make it to the track this weekend.

Again, if anyone has already done this, please chime in - I would like to know how you did and what you learned.
