Default S10 8.5...

I've heard our 7.5 fits perfectly in an S10...if this is true the ZR2 8.5 differential should fit f-body's as well...has anyone thought this before?
Is this 8.5 strong enough?

I don't think S10's use a torque arm, so there won't be a torque arm mount (same problem with the ford 8.8 conversion). Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Correct. Fabrication would be required, and the 8.5 isn't really strong enough to warrant the conversion.

Is there any other possible conversion out there? IMO $3k for a differential just don't cut it.

Im about to do ZR2 rearend converison. My 7.5 is garbage. I have broke it three times in the last week. And, now I have 3.23 in my 7.5 and they suck with a cammed 6spd.

Let us know how it holds the power of a cammed LS1.

I used to be an S-10 guy i had a 4.3 5 spd with an 8.5", i only had full exhaust and a few other things done though. A guy i knew had the same thing but put mildly built LT4 under the hood with a t-56. The 8.5" lasted like 4 or 5 months i think before it was gone with stock gears(3.08). Keep in mind there is no weight in the back and the tires would spin pretty freely. He had Z06 wheels on it. He is now putting a 9" in with a 4 link.

Default s10 8.5"

rear end is too narrow and no torque arm mount, better go 12 bolt or 9". Strength is comparable to a 12 bolt the 8.5" replaced the 12 bolt as H/D rear end and GM quit making 12 bolts because of this

Yeah I was shocked as **** to find an 8.5 under my Blazer ('03 5 speed). Though for sure they all had the 7.5/7.625 rears. Briefly entertained the thought of swapping rears, but no way my fabrication skills are good enough to make that work.
