Couple of Questions before I buy My Gears...
Alright, i've got a couple of questions before I pick up some gears for my car. I'm gonna go with 3.73's to help out my stall.
1. What are the chances of gear whine? I've been in a car with it and it doesn't bother me too much, but I just want to know what the chances are of it.
2. Is there any certain brand I should go with, or should I go with ginuine GM 3.73 gears? Is Motive a better brand?
3. Do you have to have the Master Install Kit to go with your gears?
4. Do you have to match your gears to your stall and vice versa? If so, should 3.73's match up with a 3800 stall?
Any help is appreciated!

I have 4.10s and they dont start to whine until 70mph and its not a loud whine. You really dont even hear it unless you know what your listenting for. I have GM gears. I dont know about the master install. I didnt install gears myself. Yes you should definitley match up your stall and gears! For a 3800 i would go 4.10s because they would keep the stall from feeling too "loose". The 4.10s will keep it tighter and lock up quicker because of how it always runs higher rpms. 3.73s might be fine though. Not sure. We'll just have to wait for someone else to post with 3.73s. Im curious myself.

I had 4.11's installed and they whined a bit. But they were meshed a bit on the tight side because I am very hard on them at the track.
They were motives and looked very beefy compared to the stock 3.42.
The install kit is nice but you can buy the parts seperatly and save a few dollars.
Get a beefy rear cover while your at it.
Just my 2 cents.

1. If you get richmond gears, like i have, they will whine like there is no tomorrow. or if they are not properly installed, they can whine.
2. go with motive or strange gears. can't go wrong with either.
3. you don't have too, but i recommend it. if you are gonna spend the money for gears, you can shell out a little more for a master/rebuild kit.
4. again, you don't have too, but to get the most out of your car you should. i run on motor and a 26in slick, so 4.10s put me at the sweet spot when i hit the traps. if you plan on spraying it, either go with a 3.73, or run a bigger tire. i went from 2.73s to 4.10s and it was a nice gain. got rid of all the looseness in my 4000 stall. hope this helps.
P.S. don't forget to get a TA girdle if you plan on launching on a sticky tire!
