Default 10 bolt, 4:10?

I need some 4:10s BAD in my large cam only, 6sp TA. I really don't have the money for a 9" right now so I was thinking about having a local speed shop install some Motive 4:10s. My car only has 29k and is not a daily driver. I play around with it on the street but don't dump the clutch that hard. I have only had it at the track once and I was dumping it at 3500 and it was hooking and not breaking anything BUT the car is just such a turd outta the hole, it was only 60's 2.0s on Nitto DRs. You guys think I can get by for a while with the 4:10s in the stock ******* 10b or it is a total waste of money?? I think the 4:10s will really help my driveability(cam surge) and make the car feel much more responsive around town but I don't have $2k for a rear so.... I can gamble with $500-600 but... The car will go to the track occassionally but mainly its a street cruiser. I do want it to be relatively launchable say 3500 or so on DRs. Once I get some good numbers out of it, I probably won't take it back to the track for awhile but I NEED some good numbers for braggin rights ya know... What yall think?

3500 on DRs w/4.10s in a 10bolt w/a 6spd car probably won't last too long. i'd take the money you'd spend on that and put it towards a rear end, unless its going to be a LONG time before you can afford one. in which case stick with the shitty drivability and stronger gears.

yeah 10/4.. I was just wanting something to get me by. I am saving for a house so I can't dump $2k anytime soon. Guess I will stick with it but the car is SUCH a terd with the 3.42s All my power is 4000rpms and up..

I would say do it, but I did it and I broke the carrier at the track. It did'nt hurt the gears though. The carrier was on it's last leg anyways. But I did like how it felt with the 4.10's. I just got a 9" now with 4.11's.

JR I am still kinda thinking about doing it. I just can't penny up $2-2400 for a rear now and my car needs gears bad. I will probably not take it to the track until I can get a 9" but I need something for the street. If I roll away from a stop light easy and hammer it at about 10mph, the car is a flat out turd until 4000-4500 rpms. It just has no bottom end torque. I am wondering if the Motive 4:10s with the 41/10 setup will live just street driving it and hammering it from rolls, not even going from a dead stop? Car makes 400rwhp and 550+ on the squirt which I rarely even use. The car is on Nittos(but it never spins em from a roll) an only gets driven on the weekends. I can do the gear swap for $600, for what I want thats a lot better then $2k. I am a gambling man, I think I might try it. I don't drag race the car hard just play with other cars on the street from a street roll mainly. DAMN decisions..

I say try it. And if it breaks don't bitch. Just play it safe launching and spraying it. Mine has been fine.

Its the luck of the draw with this stuff.. I've launched mine at over 4000 rpm (mostly around 5k, some over 6k) at the track with a stock rearend and 4.10's on DR's.. no problems at all, just don't dump the clutch.. use clutch slippage and tirespin in your favor.

If you dont have the money for the rear, I'd just do the gear swap. $600 sounds kinda high for a gearswap though. You can get a set of gears for like $180 or $190 and if you talk to some people I bet you can find somone to install them for a good price. I've found two people by where I live to do the install for $150 and I KNOW that they are awesome at setting up the rearends.

G-Force quoted me $189 for the gears, $39 for the install kit, $350 for labor + fluids. so I figured with tax about $620 or so. I know I can get the gears a little cheaper and the install kit a little cheaper but... G-force does decent work so I don't mind supporting the locals to some degree.

Yeah I am going to try it out. I got my *** drug by a stock Z06 this weekend. 20 roll, I was in 1st, he was in 2nd, I got the move, he walked away. Finally in 3rd he quit pulling but by then was already 2-3 cars ahead of me.. I gotta get some gears to help this turd pull away from its own shadow..

I have 4.10 in a stock 10blt and broke the first set. Ring and pinion trashed. Being a poor a$$ I bought a set of Richmond 4.10's and put them in. I actually ripped the M6 apart(second gear completely gone) before I trashed those gears and they are still holding strong. I say go for it just be cautious and make sure you put in a good set of gears. You'll love em

I have a 10bolt with 4.10s and have never dumped the clutch but I have done some 4000rpm launches with slipping the clutch. Im still running the same setup but well see how another 200hp does with it when I get my car back! Id say put the 4.10's in... Do what u normally do and then if it does break... be ready not to drive that puppy for a couple of weekends! Goodluck with the 10bolt and 4.10's and goodluck finding your new home!

Which gears are better? Ricmonds or Motives?
