Stock rear end started to whine

Stock rear end started to whine Today I noticed while driving about 30 to 40 mph my rear end is whining pretty good also any speed under that. I took it out on the hwy and can't really hear it at hwy speeds. I really notice it now while coming to a stop. Any Idea what is causing it? I have a stock 02 z28 .

Yea I dont' race it, I get on it everyonce in awhile. But this noise went from nothing to very loud. I just took it into the shop to look at it, I will post what they found out.

Sorry couldn't resist. Seriously, the noise I have is from about 10mph +. Is the noise you have a constant Whine, Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa or like a Waaa-Waaa-Waaa-Waaa-Waaa-Waaa? Mine is the second one. I'm fearing that it is a bearing but hoping that it is just this common noise that everyone is talking about.

Yea mine was a constant whine, the bearings went out. I had them replaced. Now that noise is gone but I can now hear a little noise when letting off the throttle at about 30 or 40 mph. I took it back they are saying that it is the bearings breaking in and it can take up to a thousand miles. I don't believe that, but I will put some miles on it and see.

Change your rear geal oil (i.e axle lubricant) and don't forget the limited slip additive and a new gasket to boot. I just get mine from GM dealer. You can change it yourself if you want. It's a pain iin the ***, but only on your virgin try. After that, it becomes old hat. The additive reeks, so don't get it on you.
