What do i need for gears?
I want to get 3.73 gears for my a4, and i have been searching around and am not completely sure what i need. Like a n new instal kit, ring pinion spacer. I don't know what size carrier i need ither. Will 3.73's be to high for a daily driver. Right now all have is headers, lid, and custom 2.5 in exuhasut. I really need help with getting some gears.

I've been making phone calls all day on this, so your timing is excellent.

if u dont know what gears u have, on the inside of the door theres 3 stickers, the top sticker is the one u want to look at, somewhere in the middle of it, u will either see gu2, or gu5. Gu2 is 2 series 2.73, gu5 is 3 series 3.42. So if u have 2.73 get 2 series. Its also probably a good idea to get the install kit, ive heard that when u take the old gears out, u can ruin the bearings and stuff.

I know i am trying to figure this **** out before i buy. I have a series two carrier because right know i have 2.73's. So what i need to buy is a series 2 carrier 3.73's and what install kit just basic one or the expensie one? .
I think if get gears i can get down to low 13's i headers and custom 2.5 exhaust and a MTI lid. I ran a 13.7 at the track at like 80% humidy and 80 plus degrees outside.

Then you only need the "thick" ring & pinion gears 01-875373X 3.73 Ratio (Thick), and the install kit - contact Strange for this. Please double check these numbers.

While I was changing out my gears I went ahead and did a complete rebuild.
No reason to mess around. You are in there, and the parts are cheap.
Pick up the full kit with races and bearings all the way around.
You will end up getting 2 axle seals, 2 axle bearings and races, one pinon seal, inner and outer pinon bearings and races, shims & a crush collar.
Thunder has a full kit it's their expensive one, usually about $200
I went ahead and slapped on a reinforced Diff cover and preloaded studs.
I think I spent $200 on install kit, $100 on the cover, $20 on the studs, $200 for installation, and $200 on gears. Little misc costs like fluid additive etc. Around $700 for me. Most shops here charge abotu $350 to install it all if you give them allt he parts.

From my understanding gears do eat up HP. The guy running the dyno said he's lost 15 HP on a viper that he had done just the day before.
My NA Pull before everything was 345ish, and after gears and stall was 340ish.
With Nitrous it pulled 413/415
I still have some tuning to do for the 100 shot.

Believe it or not HP loss when changing gears is a common thing. There's actually a wonderful discussion going on about it right now over here:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/gears-axles/370931-power-drop-when-going-3-42-4-10-a.html
And no, I dont' have a 9" or 12 bolt. We can discuss this more over there if you want to, since we're hijacking this thread.
