Default $2800 for a 12-Bolt Installed?

I just got back from a local driveshaft & axle shop that my mechanic recommended and was quote $2,800 (parts and labor) for a 12 bolt. Considering the parts alone are priced at $2,000 - $2,500 on hawksthirdgenparts.com, I figured this was a good price. What do you think?

Currently, my stock rear end needs about $800 in repairs. Since I plan on racing the T/A, I think it would be better to junk the 10 bolt and put on a 12.

800 for labor....meh....thats a lot of money...considering most shops charge are 70 for labor an hour...that would be more than 11 hours for labor.....but then again..i have no idea how long it takes to put ina rear.

if it's a fully loaded ($2500 dollar 12-bolt) and then $300 to install it then that is not bad at all...

if it's a $2000 12-bolt (the cheapest of the cheap w/ no tcs, etc, etc) then install it yourself...

They said it would take about a week to get all the parts in and build it up and then less than a day to put it on the car, so I'm assuming it comes with everything it's supposed to.

I normally would just install it myself, but current circumstances prevent me from doing so. I'm from New Orleans and am staying with relatives here in Longview. I don't have any of my tools, nor do I know the condition of them. I also don't know anyone that could help me. I have money from my insurance company, so I decided to just have someone else do it.

Know what your getting!!!!!! Then you can tell if they are ripping you off. What kind of read what kind of Posi? Should be about 4 hour at shop labor rate. You can buy the read end yourself and have it dropped shipped to shop if they do not give you a good price. Find out if it will have to be painted. If you do not LCA now would be the time.

I just called them to get some details. This is what he said:
DTS 12 Bolt, 3.73 gears, track bar mount, abs. He said that my brakes and rotors would be reused. He also mentioned a clutch top something or other, not sure what that is. They recently did a 12-Bolt swap on a WS6. They said the parts on that one cost $2,775 and that the total invoice came out to $3,203.65. I asked what the labor would be if I supplied the 12-bolt and he said $450. Is it just me, or does all that not add up right?

It starting to seem cheaper to order the parts from Exotic, have it shipped here, and just pay the local place for labor.

I'd be more prone to buy the rearend from a sponsor to get exactly what you need, and no b.s. run around pricing.
then have a reputable shop install it.

whats this clutch top? never heard of that before either...

I agree 100%. If I were you I'd call Thunder Racing and see if they still have the 10% off sale going on, then order yourself a nice Moser 12 bolt. Shop around on the install cost since you can't install it yourself right now. $2800 way too much if you ask me.

$450 doesnt sound unreasonable. If you think its to much than put it in yourself its not hard. They have to swap your brakes and sway bar too. And you certainlly dont need a hoist to put one in all you need is 2 people and a jack if you have never done one before and if you have you could do it with just one.

Talked to 2 speed shops in NJ about labor to put in my new 9" rear.
One was 450 the other was 600.
I think 450 is worth it. for 600 I think I would do it myself.
After dumping 2200 on the rear and more on a new TQ. arm, I'll most likly be doing it myself....... ............
