Default 3.73 question

I was talking to someone today and telling them about getting my 3.73 gears installed soon. The person I was speaking with suggested that I stay with my 3.23's that I currently have. The person stated that I would most likely start to get walked on with the 3.73 gears (strictly talking about racing from a roll - not red light to red light). Something about not being able to downshift to 2nd and being out of my powerbad at that speed/rpm.

Any thoughts on that?

The automatic trans will shift through the gears so much quicker with the 3.73 gears that I couldn't see any benefit from manually shifting it.

As far as drag racing, my 60 ft. times suffered for a short time after going from 2.73's to 3.73's. I just had to learn what the car liked with the new gears. Now my 60 ft. times are way better than before the swap.

From what I read previously, through tuning you need to adjust your shift tables, MPH shiftpoints, something like that. If you change your gears and don't adjust this/these, you will have some points where the car will be a hog.

I think I read this from jimmyblue. He seems to be very knowledgeable. Search for his posts in Tuning and Gears & Axles.

i would suggest sticking with 323s and getting a stall converter. the stall will REALLY help from a roll, and the gain from 323-373 isn't worth the money, imo.

What about getting a stall like 3600 2.0 str and switching from 3.23's to 3.73's? Will this be the ultimate combo?
