My stock 3.42 axle is still good...it's a daily driver with 340 rwhp and has over 100,000 miles on it.
I had a local shop build another 10-bolt axle with 3.73 gears, studs, aluminum girdle, welded axle tubes, solid pinion spacer, and the stock torsen for ***** and giggles. After about 4 months it is nearly completely destroyed. The bearings are howling, the posi is trashed, and it makes all sorts of strange banging noises.
I'll be putting the stocker back in this weekend (if it quits raining)

I just built mine up: Moser axles, LPW Cover with brace kit, Cap stud kit, Welded axle tubes, GM Motive 4.10's all new bearings, Auburn Posi , a little gear howl at 70mph but holding up fine, haven't really gotten on it yet! If car doesn't sell, I'll go to the track in the spring with BFG Drag Radials 315/35/17's, see if it will hold! Original rear had 70k I made about 7 passes at the track (street tires) 13.50's and a little street pounding and pinion bearing started howling. Hopefully it holds up but I know if I pick up the power I'll be looking for a 9 inch. These 10 bolts have to be properly set-up to have a chance to live!

I did mine up with solid pinion spacer, ARP studs on the caps, stud girdle, Strange 4.10 R&P, new bearings seals all that crap, and it grenaded the first time I gave it all she had. On the street. On street tires. And it was wet out. Nailed it in first, went sideways for a min, nailed second, hooked, front end came up and *BOOM*. Ordered a 9" that night and never looked back.

I am running Yukon 3.73 gears, Auburn Pro carrier, stock axles, and a TA cover/girdle. The car pulls consistent low 1.5 60ft times and a few 1.48 – 1.49. I have many passes (100+) on the setup.
This setup will last a long time in an auto car but will die a quick death in a 6sp car with a few 4000+ RPM clutch dumps.

I built mine up too with all the bells and wistles. Only thing not done was solid spacer. I actually reused the stock spacer and it started leaking a little after 2k miles and a full day of 1.6X 60' passes through my M6 and MT DRs. Fixing that now and putting in 3.42s for it's new home in an A4 car. If my car were A4 I would keep it, but I really want to beat the **** out of it with M6 and more power.
