I would try to find a different housing that has the gear ratio you want. There are alot out there from poeple that have gone to a 9" or 12 bolt.

I have a stock 10 bolt out of my 01 ws6 with 3.42. Ill have it out in about 3 weeks
and for sale for $300. It makes no noise and is in great shape. Minor pinion leak
but ive never seen one that does not leak alittle.
